First rains of the season

Yesterday were the first rains of the season. We had a few brief but heavy rainfalls here, but we found out later it was nothing compared to what most of the Negev got. There was major flooding in many areas, with highways washing out completely.


The first signs of rains to come. These were the first clouds I saw here this year. It was weird to think that I hadn't seen clouds for a month!


There was a little bit of local flooding--this is Boqer stream, about 15 minutes from Sede Boqer. The area behind here also looked like a flood plain with large muddy areas. I'm told that for most of the year this is dry.

A friend sent me some pictures of other areas in the Negev. It sounds like the areas around Arad were hardest hit.


Two highways were completely washed out
