Flamingos, flamingos and more flamingos

After Samburu we went to Lake Boringo. At this lake there are many geysers with boiling hot water that are continuously erupting.



There's also a huge population of flamingos at Lake Boringo.


Despite the birds and geysers, we were ready to leave Boringo after not too long a time. Standing in the steam of boiling hot geysers on a warm day makes one kind of warm!

We went to Lake Bogoria to try and see some hippos. I think this is what Matt and Nile (and Takashi and Yoshie as well) came to Africa to see. At first we saw some crocodiles....


The crocodiles were cool on their own, but where were the hippos?

We did end up seeing some.....mostly what we saw was a whole lot of empty water.......but also a lot of eyes and ears sticking up from the water


Our guide kept trying to take us to look for more crocodiles, and finally we convinced him that what we were really interested in was more hippos! Success!


We also crossed the Equator--this trip was the first time I have been in the Southern Hemisphere.


The last stop before Masai Mara was Lake Nakuru. There can be 10s of 1,000s of flamingos on this lake. The whole area is a nature reserve so there are lots of animals. Our first Rhinos.....


Warthogs! And more water buffalo.
