Red flowers in Besor Wadi
I went this weekend with Hadas to look for red flowers. I wasn't quite sure what we were looking for, but I was told that they were red and they were special, so how could I turn down that invitation? We went to Besor Wadi, about 1 hour west of Beer Sheva.
This field isn't full of red flowers, but it was really cool looking anyways. It reminds me of bogs or something similar in the arctic.
But we did find the red flowers. There was actually more than one type--poppies and anenomes. I think the first picture is the poppy and the second the anenome? I'm not sure, but I'm not a botanist so what are you going to do? Oh, hold on.......why don't we just say that these are pictures of poppies and anenomes.
There were lots of people out that day looking for the flowers. When something new is blooming, it seems that lots and lots of Israelis go out looking for it on the Shabbat. I'm not sure yet what I think of it--in a way it's great that they are very interested in their natural environment, and by going out and seeing it they're more likely to be involved in conservation.
On the other hand, if you saw how many people it was, and knew how little protected land there actually was here......well, lets just say I wasn't sure what to think when I see the huge groups walking through the nature reserves.
But lots of them were. The colours were pretty amazing.
Finally, it wouldn't be a trip with my friends if we didn't find some sort of cool insect or animal....so here's the insect.
p.s. If you can't tell, I'm having some problems with the new way of getting pictures to blogger. Sorry about that.
